About O'ahu
Oahu is the third largest Hawaiian island with an area of 596.7 square miles. As of 2012, the population of Oahu is 1,419,561 with a population density of 1,636 square miles. Oahu is divided into 5 distinct regions known as Honolulu, the Windward Coast, Central Oahu, the Leeward Coast, and the North Shore. Honolulu is also the capital city of the state of Hawaii. With the location of Honolulu and the major Honolulu International Airport, Oahu is the entry point for most of Hawaii's visitors. Oahu is home of a number of Hawaii's most beautiful beaches, such as Hanauma Bay, Sunset Beach, and the world famous Waikīkī Beach. In addition to this, there are also many different other attractions such as Pearl Harbor, Valley of the Temples Memorial Park, and Mokoliʻi Island. Oahu is also home to many different plant species and wildlife that are endemic to the island and also protected by the Oahu Army Natural Resources Program.
